Information for Luxembourgish Nationals Residing Outside of Luxembourg

Luxembourgish citizens residing outside of Luxembourg may vote in Luxembourg. If they reside in another EU Member State, they may also vote in their residency EU Member State, but may only vote once.

Voter Registration

Everyone registered on the electoral rolls up to the age of 75 are obligated to vote.

Who is eligible to vote?

In Luxembourg, you are eligible to vote if you:

  • Have Luxembourgish or another EU citizenship with legal residency in Luxembourg,

  • Have reached the age of 18 on election day,

  • Have not been deprived of your civil or right to vote.

How do I register?
Luxembourgish citizens living abroad must register to vote by requesting a postal vote (see below).

Luxembourgish citizens residing abroad must vote by post.
By Post
To vote by post, you must submit a request. You can submit your request beginning Sunday 17 March 2024 until Wednesday 15 May 2024. Your request must be submitted to the commune where you live and vote. The request can be submitted online. After receiving and completing the voting materials, you must send them back and they must be received by the appropriate polling station before 14:00 on Election Day, Sunday 9 June 2024. Registering to Vote

Luxembourgish citizens living in Luxembourg are automatically registered to vote at their municipal authorities. Everyone registered on the electoral rolls up to the age of 75 are obligated to vote.

In Luxembourg, you are eligible to vote if you:

  • Have Luxembourgish or another EU citizenship with legal residency in Luxembourg,

  • Have reached the age of 18 on election day,

  • Have not been deprived of your civil or right to vote.

How do I register?
Luxembourgish citizens living in Luxembourg are automatically registered to vote at the authorities and do not need to register.

Casting Your Ballot

Luxembourgish citizens residing in Luxembourg can vote in person on Election Day or by post.

In Person Voting
You can vote in person on Election Day at the polling station of the commune where you live. You will receive information about the location before Election Day. You should bring with you your identity card, passport, or residency permit to vote.
By Post Voting
To vote by post, you must submit a request. You can submit your request beginning Sunday 17 March 2024 until Wednesday 15 May 2024. Information for EU National Living in Luxembourg

EU citizens from other EU Member States who live in Luxembourg may vote in either their home Member State or in Luxembourg, their residency Member State, but may only vote once.

Registering to Vote

To vote in Luxembourg, you must register in your place of residence in Luxembourg. Once registered, you will automatically receive information about European elections. Everyone registered on the electoral roll up to the age of 75 are obligated to vote. Therefore, if you register to vote in Luxembourg and are under the age of 75 you are obligated to vote in Luxembourg.

In Luxembourg, you are eligible to vote if you:

  • Have Luxembourgish or another EU citizenship with legal residency in Luxembourg,

  • Have reached the age of 18 on election day,

  • Have not been deprived of your civil or right to vote.

How do I register?
If this is your first time participating in the European elections in Luxembourg, you must apply for registration to the electoral roll at the commune of your residency.
