Registering to Vote

Maltese citizens living in Malta are automatically registered to vote by the authorities.

Who is eligible to vote?

In Malta, you are eligible to vote if you:

  • Have Maltese or another EU citizenship, and

  • Have reached the age of 16 the day before the election.

Maltese citizens living in Malta are automatically registered to vote by the authorities and you do not need to register

Casting Your Ballot

Maltese citizens residing in Malta who are registered to vote can vote in person on Election Day.

EU citizens from other EU Member States who live in Malta may vote in either their home Member State or in Malta, their residency Member State, but may only vote once.

Casting Your Ballot

EU citizens residing in Malta who are registered to vote can vote in person on Election Day.

In Person Voting
You can vote in person on Election Day. You have to vote at a specific polling station based on your residency address. This polling station will be indicated on the voting document you will receive before the election. To vote, it is required to bring the voting document sent to you before the election. It is also recommended to bring your ID.
